The holiday season has come and gone, and those of us who were responsible for all the cooking and meal preparation can finally breathe a sigh of relief! Unfortunately, it’s a truth universally acknowledged that cooking goes hand in hand with cleaning afterwards. And no other appliance in the kitchen is as tough or grueling to clean as the oven! As one of the best cleaning companies in Malta, JF Group have compiled a list of useful tips to help you with the thankless chore that is oven cleaning.
1. Calling All Working Parents!
Juggling housework and a full time job is never easy, especially if you like to leave Saturdays free for some down time. Before leaving for work in the morning, spray the oven with oven cleaner so that it can begin dissolving those nasty grease spots and burnt bits. When you get home later in the evening, it will be much easier to scrub the rest of the dirt off.
2. Vinegar + Water = Magic
Scrubbing off loosened gunk with just a bucket of water and a sponge is a rookie mistake. Not only is it largely ineffective when cleaning, but it also tends to leave food with a taste of oven cleaner. Instead, grab two spray bottles and fill both of them with a water and vinegar solution. After you’ve scrubbed down the oven using water, a nylon-bristled brush and a clean dishrag, spray the whole area again with the water and vinegar solution. Do it twice if necessary – the whole point of this exercise is to remove the residue completely.
3. Rub Down Those Racks!
Remove the oven racks and allow them to soak in hot soapy water, ideally while you’re cleaning the rest of the oven. In the case of really stubborn grime, you might need to leave them soak for several hours, changing the water every so often to make sure it remains hot. Afterwards, wipe them down thoroughly with a sponge of good quality.
4. Cleaning the Oven Window? Baking Soda Works a Charm
That’s right – simply mix together water and baking soda to create a thick paste. Apply the mixture to the oven window, making sure to spread it all over the glass. Leave it there for about 15-20 minutes, depending on how dirty the surface is, and use a clean rag to wipe it off afterwards.
Oven cleaning is not the most fun of chores, but these tips should make it as easy and effective as possible!
